about

I am  a life-long creative with extensive independent film/video directing, shooting, editing, and pre and post-production experience. Drawing from my experience as a filmmaker, I understand the importance of harmonizing images with words to create visually enticing and thought-provoking pieces. Providing creative and technical input into the planning and building of compelling and engaging content strongly appeals to my love of marrying images and words.

I’ve edited every video or film project I’ve shot, be it 8mm or 16mm film, videotape, or digital. I have created visual and written content for large, well-established companies, small start-ups, not-for-profit events, gastro pubs, performance venues through my production company, Gullible Girl Productions, which I established in Chicago in 1993. I am particularly excited about my latest project Bright Icons, which was first a one-act play but has now evolved into a multi-media live performance event that uses street theater as a vehicle for a tour of Brighton’s iconic cultural landmarks. As well as being the author, I wrote and directed the Bright Icons teaser trailer which is to be used as part of the pitch package.

I am also a video journalist and arts, culture, and fashion columnist. In fact, a good percentage of my creative pursuits have a journalistic narrative. I started out as a video journalist for CounterMedia, a Chicago underground journalism collective that provided alternative coverage of the 1996 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. I was present when then senator Barack Obama spoke in front of a crowd of agitated protesters in a bid to de-escalate a confrontation with Chicago police. Naturally, he was successful. More recently, I documented the speech of Wikileaks whistle-blower Julian Assange as he addressed a kettled crowd at the #Occupy London Stock Exchange protests on the steps of St Paul's Cathedral in London in 2011.

On digital platforms, I served as the Web Editor/Lead Blogger for the local fashion event, Brighton Fashion Week. In collaboration with the creative, marketing, and production management teams, I helped reformat the website, transforming it from a promotional tool to year-round fashion news and information source. My team of 9 fashion journalist not only covered the latest in international fashion news and trends, they wrote about sustainability, factory worker safety, blood diamonds, the fur trade, animal testing, body dysmorphia, cultural appropriation, and the increased popularity of men's grooming. In addition to editing the work of my team, I created content for participating fashion designers and external stockholders Dr. Martens, Electric Hairdressing, and Benefit Cosmetics. Contacts through BFW led me to become a  Contributing Columnist for 125 Magazine, a "visual compendium of new ideas in photography, fashion, art, and culture". As a Contributing Columnist, I attended London Fashion Week twice,  meet and wrote an article on Angela Missoni, picked the brain of iconic fashion journalist Gianluca Longo, interviewed Vogue Japan editor-at-large Anna Dello Russo, and wrote a review for the documentary film The Eye Must Travel on fashion journalism icon Diana Vreeland.

Through my comprehensive familiarity with a variety of industries, I have become adept and resourceful at planning, delivering, and analyzing creative and proactive PR/Digital Marketing campaign strategies and content that reflects current trends and innovations in digital media. My seasoned experience offers a wealth of insight into what promotes growth in brand awareness and engagement.
